Cultivating and planting on the marshes

These images show how labour intensive was the preparation of the land in the marshes prior to planting the Silver bananas . Cutting back the scrub, digging out the ditches , the entire planting and clearing process was done by hand.

Under the guidance of Engenheiro Florestal Felipe Fernandes a micro- drainage system of ditches was created in order to avoid flooding in the rainy season.

Cristina has planted trees in some areas for 20 years.
